What is a "serious game?" Well, here's Wikipedia's definition:
A serious game is a software application developed with game technology and game design principles for a primary purpose other than pure entertainment.
An example would be America's Army, a game built, some might say, to train future soldiers. Another would be the Carmen SanDiego series of educational CD-ROMs. And yet another would be PeaceMaker: Global Conflicts, a screenshot of which is shown below. In other cases, standard games are used in non-standard ways - such as Civilization III being used to teach the key concepts of history. Here's a question for you: how would you define serious games?
This wiki is an aide to learning and exporing the world of serious games. We'll present some information, ask questions, and expect input and discussion from you. All of us are smarter than any of us: please share your thoughts!
Start by checking the background information pages below. Then browse through some of the links in the serious games feed grazer in the sidebar. And finally, add some of your thoughts on the discussion topic pages (or anywhere on this wiki). Of course, if you'd like to dive right in wherever you want, you're perfectly welcome to!
